ERASMUS program

The European Union launched its Socrates programme in 1995 to support each level of education from kindergarten through public and language education to adult instruction. Within Socrates, the Erasmus (European Community Action Schemes for the Mobility of University Students) programme specifically aids the endeavours of tertiary educational institutions.

Within the Erasmus programme, accredited tertiary educational institutions can submit their applications in the following areas:

1. Mobility programmes
        The organisation of student mobility
        Lecturer mobility

2. The introduction of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)
        In the future, as well as the submission of new ECTS proposals, institutions which have had
        the system for at least 2 years may invite ECTS advisers. The aim of these visits will be the
        exploration and introduction of well-operating systems.

3. Joint educational projects
        The development of new joint university/college specialisms or teaching units
        Intensive programmes

4. Thematic Networking Projects
        The Institutional Contract, which needs to be submitted every year, provides a framework for
        the proposed activity, which is to be submitted with the Institutional Contract.
        The application has a 3-year time-span and needs to be renewed every year.
