Department of Civil and Municipal Engineering

Origin

The Department of Civil and Municipal Engineering was set up in 1993 within the Faculty of Building and Environmental Engineering through the merge of several former departments with a history of about 25 years.

Scope

The working area of the Department covers a wide range of civil engineering infrastructure, with special emphasis of the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of transportation and other civil engineering projects as well as the technical development and operation of municipalities.

Activities

The Department provides initial and continuing training of engineers (BSc in Civil Engineering, BSc in Municipal Engineering), its further activities being research, planning, design and consultancy.

Staff

The academic staff of the Department consists of 18 full-time members, 9 of them having at least the Dr.-Ing. degree, as well as some part-time teaching staff from the practice.

Equipment

The Department is equipped with appropriate computer facilities and it has access to the accredited laboratory of the Faculty.

Links to practice

Due to various contracts, the Department has extensive links to companies, authorities and other organisations in the civil engineering sector, especially an the area of roads, railways and local governments.

Links with foreign universities

The Department has experience in working on various international projects with universities like the TU Wien, TU Graz, Universität für Bodenkultur (A), Technical University of Brno (CZ), FH Köln, TFH Berlin, Universität Hannover, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Fachhochschule Erfurt (D), University College London, University of Hertfordshire (GB), TU Delft (NL), TU Kraków (PL), Slovak Technical University in Bratislava, University of Zilina (SK), University of Maribor (SLO).
